What are restricted products on TikTok Shop, and which ones need approval?
Restricted products are items TikTok Shop may allow only if the seller meets additional approval, documentation, or category requirements. This is different from prohibited products, which cannot be sold at all.
Restricted status usually applies to products that are regulated, branded, age-sensitive, documentation-heavy, or otherwise high-risk from a compliance perspective. Sellers often misread a restricted-product block as a random rejection when TikTok is actually asking for category-specific proof.
Check the Restricted Products Policy, confirm what approvals or documents TikTok expects, and then compare those requirements with the product data and files you plan to submit. If the product is also close to a prohibited category, review both policies before resubmitting.
Do not assume a restricted product can be listed first and documented later. In many cases TikTok expects the approval path to be completed before the listing can go live safely.
